Solo of a Summer

In a strange place, made an outcast,
Reassuring myself it will not last,
Day after day, treading alone,
Watching my skin turn to stone.

But in a place that remains  strange,
I must remain, unable to change,
My thoughts, my habits, strengthened to embrace
Challenges to each day I may face.

Watching myself, I know I am grown,
Yet growing still, developing my own
Vows, promises, skills I will use,
To continue down the life I choose.
